Card Ideas For 20th Birthday

Scandicci: from farming village to city; Gheri Simone, Mayor of Scandicci. 8 ^ p (First part)

I had never heard of Scandicci, until I read in the early sixties (I lived in Rome), some novels Pratolini Vasco, The Scialo, Chronicle of Poor Lovers , and some others. Against the backdrop of compelling stories, Pratolini told how, in the years between the wars, the wealthy shopkeepers of Florence went to vacation in the hills of Scandicci and gardeners scandiccesi every morning at dawn with the cart to go and sell their vegetables in the city . I still remember the impressions of living in the sunny fields of the countryside scandiccese and cheerful noise of the trolleys that went by night in Florence. Only later did I read
Prints 800 Aldo Palazzeschi where The writer reminded Scandicci Florence around 1890. His whole family spent the summer in a villa in Scandicci Alto. Infinite load furnishings (even the sewing machine!) And went on a coach from San Frediano in the early afternoon to arrive at Scandicci dinner.
As you can imagine it was then Scandicci odors that circulated in the rooms spacious and fresh in their villa, "the piercing of hay, straw and threshing grain in a fine dust that gold was performed in the yard arms, the corn, vegetables, pumpkins, the lavender, the verbena and mint, grapes, peaches figs apples, and the violent and racking of the must, marc, of which the house became intoxicated. "
I do not know how he Scandicci other testimony before the 'catastrophe' (so, al-Nakba, the Palestinians call Israel's birth) construction of the Sixties, when even "a windowsill flower was the subject of complacency" throughout the country , "city as an institution" (Palazzeschi wrote in another place). The iconography of
Scandicci is poor: Operate a dozen old photos and old postcards that I see in all the local publications. Forty years ago, Edward Such, Florentine architect and urban planner, wrote: "While cities like Rome are rich a thrift (...) photographic heritage of Florence, almost a meanness, has missed so many pictures, now sunk ... Nobody cared to photograph it before you destroy the walls, and there are no images of the soil and the environment outside the old city. Finally, what is more guilty, there are few documents that the external landscape ... "
To get an idea of how it was before the Scandicci 'housing explosion' (the phrase this time is E. These) , one must have recourse to the memories of the 'grandmothers', published some years ago in a valuable and delightful little book called When women had bikes .
A grandmother recalls: "In summer we reached Florence, crossing expanses of fields that ran before our eyes. Take the meadow was like to arrive in America. "
Renato Castaldi's book, Scandicci and its people, published almost twenty years ago, though talk of particular political events, it also contains some nice glimpse of the landscape. One morning, Castaldi baby and mom together on a large lawn freshly cut, not far from the 'Four Madonnas', an acquaintance, rags, intent on collecting mushrooms. "My mother began to converse with him, spoke of mushroom (she had collected a lot)." Mushrooms to the 'Four Madonna '!

L'Eco di Scandicci, 15-19 July 1986
Partisans and men in the street

latest issue of 'Eco Mrs. Mila Pieralli, Mayor of Scandicci, with a few sentences lays out the four cats who have criticized the New Plan.
says the mayor that their positions are "pre-established provocative and clearly biased and that she will only respond to questions put by the man in the street. He concludes: "One time I had a strong temptation to respond, that is, when I caught a glimpse of the offenses in a speech to all citizens Scandicci.
E 'moving, though, outside of the Registry, the category "all citizens of Scandicci" does not exist.
By now we all know what the level of our public life. The debate between parties seems effervescent (Scandicci is an exception), but is more of a debate among deaf people: no one really has the intention to discuss seriously. to criticism (justified or not) does not ever respond in kind, but still talking on the other. Criticism of isolated citizens, then, should never ever meet. Who the hell think they are?
Mrs. Mila Pieralli not say that the criticisms are wrong at NPR. If they say, should also look for some way to prove it, entering into the substance of the questions. But these gentlemen who rule the following rule never to attract an intelligent discussion, not to be bogged down in arguments from which they would not know how to get out more. Instead, with the excuse that the criticism is partisan and provocative, it is exempt from the duty to respond, to explain and convince.
Many of the 23 letters published by The Eco , mayor says, were written by same people. So what? Perhaps for this reason, their reasons are worth less?
Mrs. Pieralli love and esteem the only man in the street. Some time ago, Federico Tiezzi, director of the avant-garde theater group 'Magazzini Criminals', recruited by the municipality of Scandicci, gave an interview to the newspaper 'La Nation'. After showering praise on the New Plan, Tiezzi said: "We are there in Scandicci, talking on the streets with people as in ancient Athens." Scandiccese course, no one has ever seen, but perhaps Mrs. Pieralli really believed it and have thought that the man in the street in Scandicci, re-educated by these brilliant actors, has become an ideal citizen as an Athenian time of Pericles.

libel, slander, something will "
And so the New Plan of Scandicci was finally approved. This outcome was predictable, given that the Communist Party has an absolute majority of the directors. However, what he is very disappointed was the weakness of the discussion that has accompanied the process of the NPR audience, which began over a year ago. No one has supported this plan, unless the PCI Journal, but even those who criticized him, he did so feebly: some modest assembly, some manifest. No political group has invested a national problem. The Eco has the merit of having published this year 20/25 letters from citizens who have serious issues with all rejected at least part of the plan considered the most aberrant, namely the construction of a large shopping center on the last large area still available in town. The letters on Eco have so far constituted the most significant intervention. But neither the Government nor the PCI have felt it my duty, I say to accept, but at least respond to those criticisms. They have completely ignored. So weak were their cultural principles that if they declined to speak for phrases, they would have risked losing the game. Just read the incredible clear that the Municipal Coordination of PCI has been put up after the approval of the Plan.
"... After the obstruction and the ideological wars, after exhausting procedural battles and campaigns of toxic releases, the vote of the City Council has done justice deformation specious and has laid bare the true face of political forces. Di available on the firm and the attitude of getting things done Communist group, the DC has thrown in the towel because of fatigue and the PSI is dissolved like snow in the sun of August ...".
to stay there stunned for a prose so pompous and ridiculously old-fashioned. It is not only a matter of style. As always, clichés and phrases flamboyant, especially when they come from those who have responsibility for government, reveal the bad faith and lack of arguments. It is impressive, too, that the PCI consider the criticisms as spurious deformations and poisonous. Equally impressive is the fact that the PCI is no different for even a comma from the City Council, but rather that the face guard and by 'bouncers'.

Scandicci: Etruscans or vandalism?

L'Eco di Scandicci, having published two short speeches on the controversial master plan, probably scared of his courage, he dismissed the article listed below. Sure, it's more cultural about the Etruscans and Scandicci Scandicci and non modern Vandals have put and are putting a lot in various masks: first for an urgent need to house a growing population, now make the leap from neighborhood dormitory town, resulting in improved quality of life. "For a better quality of life" now a formuletta advertising (as diuretic and digestive "for mineral water) that may accompany any administrative measure.
***
"No doubt the policy of building facilities conducted by the City Council, seconded by the interests of large estate owners in the building areas for the processing of their agricultural land, has given a powerful boost to the private speculation, the true creator of 'urbanization of the plain of Scandicci.
Titi So wrote Charles in 1974 in an essay published in the journal Military Geographical Institute, The Universe .
To guide the future development should be the Scandicci at least acknowledge past mistakes and correct operational criteria of previous administrations. Instead, the promoters of the New Plan, while emphasizing the presumed so rhetorical leap from neighborhood dormitory town, accept without flinching planning the misdeeds of the past, considering them the best that could be done in difficult conditions of the massive immigration of the Sixties.
should, however, consider that immigration was a movement with a need and its urgency, or if it was not, at least for the most part, inspired, encouraged and attracted, through the attraction of low prices (a result of the easy speculation) by administrators who quite clearly had aimed at developing a huge and uncontrolled Scandicci.
E 'failed to do a rational and humane idea of the city. The provincialism of our administrators has ignored all of contemporary, and this is serious, because in this post-war experience of the new towns (New Towns) emerged in England since 1946 has shown that it is possible to control and direct the development of fast-growing city (Lewis Mumford).
It 'really odd that the planners who designed the new great center of Scandicci have now inspired (in my opinion), with a delay of thirty years, its business centers of New Towns, which are to compact plant with large concentration of buildings and services. But the New Towns has gone to just copy the most controversial, which can not be transferred to any other urban setting. The centers of the British new towns have not been lowered in an urban form and without the saturated construction (as is to Scandicci), but formed a hinge in neighborhoods bounded by vast green areas. On plants published by Ll. Rodwin in "The English new towns" you can see that every residential area is surrounded by a belt of land free of almost half the built-up area.
The reality is quite different in Scandicci. The center provided by New plan would have these effects:
a. saturate buildings contain significant remaining free space in the city center;
b. would deprive the city of the last remaining space for a large garden. Making the park Rinaldi does not exclude the need for a garden accessible at a distance footpath. Although in small quantities, nature should be enjoyable every day and not just half of a Sunday excursion;
c. we give away in a narrow space of fifteen four-storey buildings, which, apart from aesthetic considerations, would exacerbate the appearance of the rigid and bureaucratic city
d. confirm and aggravate an old error. In the past, fostered speculation, because you thought it was inevitable, and therefore right that the 'city' took the form of its wild and uncontrolled expansion. All other functions were subordinated to that expansion. Today it gives primacy to the tertiary function, which controls and influences the others.
This is the modern city in which the Administration seeks: consumerist, conservative, anti-human.
* The usual Sergio Staino drew a few cartoons to claim the New Plan. "Wake up! No more dorm ... Scandicci becomes a city!"
What about this artist celebrated in this way? It does not either laugh or cry.

Scandicci Viva Viva, Year I, n. 2 May 1985

To evaluate the master plan, to criticize or to express consent in a non-generic and rhetorical, but with precise and well-founded arguments, he has not raised any voice in Scandicci. I would like to express my opinion on certain aspects of the Plan, hoping to attract other fellow citizens to take action in the discussion.
The large park designed in the foothills of the beautiful and looks great on paper an idea, but I think there is reasonable doubt the capacity of the Municipality to make and maintain a park of this size, since it has not even been able to cure those poor tissues of green here and there to the town. (Two miserable little gardens, in M. Polo and Via Giotto, made at the beginning of term, have been left uncultivated for five years and cleaned for the first and last time, last August, following protests by individuals) .
But let's assume that all promises are kept and that this park is made.
To go there, the vast majority scandiccesi should make use of the car. This hillside park is too far away, while a fleet of at least medium is essential in the center of Scandicci. Mothers with children, the elderly who want to sunbathe or chill out and chat, those who want to relax away from traffic or read the newspaper, would not go to the park by car or by Rinaldi or on foot, and continue to serve, as they do now, the benches on the sidewalks. It can also dream of a park as a place for picnics, but Scandicci needs a garden close enough and friendly enough, it can be attended only by people who have spare time (one hour, two hours) to exploit.
The ideal space for a garden of this size and this function is the space between the Isolated Boccaccio and Savings Bank, just what should arise where the new center of Scandicci. This new center will deprive us beyond repair, therefore, something vital: the space for a big garden easy to reach from the main zones of Scandicci; a garden that would make a link between two parts of the city that you know and very frequent.

Suburbs with a human face or not?

Mrs. Mila Pieralli, Mayor of Scandicci, during the opening event of the election campaign a few weeks ago, he recalled with satisfaction that a journalist had written in the Espresso service on various Italian cities, two or three years ago, Scandicci, compared to Rome and Turin, is a suburb with a human face. I do not doubt the authenticity of the court and basically I agree with the journalist. But the face still relatively human Scandicci does not mean that the municipalities have not committed serious errors and irremediable. Even in Rome, one could say that in comparison to Rio de Janeiro (I do a random name), is a city with a human face. But this kind of comparison is only to avoid being judged by their concrete and specific responsibilities.
When I walk through the sweltering Scandicci and consider agglomeration of buildings of five, six, seven planes, the lack of gardens, the desolation of the streets, even the narrowness of the pavements, I am convinced that this urban landscape embodies the insensitivity and rudeness of those who have managed for decades.
The new plan provides for the new city in a series of large buildings, squares and services on the long strip of land that runs alongside the town hall and the Savings Bank, on the one hand, and the massive front of the palaces of the island Boccaccio, on the other hand, comes to the middle school in the Cherry street. Right there is already an imposing building, construction and long as an ocean liner. The District Council had given a negative opinion to this construction, but the council has decided the same. So there will be no interruption in the range of buildings for hundreds of meters in an area too densely populated.
I would not be melodramatic, but if you take all the spaces, where children play? The remedy democratic would be the opening of a toy library?

New Plan

The New Master Plan of the City leaders and their spokesmen have made a lot of rhetoric, but who had to pronounce (the citizens of Scandicci) other hand, remained silent.
In general the media which may be disposed (including the lack of meetings) is failure is total, during these months are decisive for the fate of the NPR, the slightest attempt at analysis and opinion that deviate from general statements.
The NPR will have a very deep (for better or for worse) on our town, will completely change its appearance. Yet there is a disturbing silence.
scandiccesi Where are the intellectuals? Where cultural and political associations are able to critically assess the reality? Where the fabric of democracy which, with easy optimism is concerned, you credit its existence?
E 'ability to critically discuss the decisions that concern, allowing the population broken up buying a size of the city.
The City Council is convinced however that it is enough to have the symbols and functions of the (ugly) modern city to move from the rank of a suburban city of the future.
If modern city means a city of business, yes, then the Master Plan will help the outskirts-Scandicci to become a modern town on business.
But if modern city means a place that has a line stolen from the aesthetic whims of the case and the interests of the strong categories, then I'm sure the new plan will give Scandicci only the chaos of modernity and occasionally enrichment few traders and professionals.
The NPR, providing the maximum concentration and centralization of the physical wide area around the Town Hall, would have the effect (apparently paradoxical) to give a further contribution to human and cultural disintegration of the population scandiccese.
readers will think that such radical criticism to arise from decisions made by specialists silly presumption. But in the field of architecture and urbanism, the specialized knowledge is not enough. On the question of the NPR, which should be decisive for choosing is the consideration of people's daily lives.
Lewis Mumford wrote in 'The Future of the City': "All errors colossal that were committed during the last quarter century in terms of urban renewal, construction of highways, transport, land use, recreational services, were made by experts and highly qualified specialists.

Bottom Four Teeth Are See Through

Italian Risorgimento. Roberto Martucci: The invention of a united Italy, 1855-1864. Sansoni, 1999.

The

Roberto Martucci book is a work of serious and acute, without a trace of rhetoric. The most remarkable and new, even if it is the least epic consists of observations on the Albertine Statute, on constitutional law and parliamentary and administrative affairs of the Kingdom of Italy just proclaimed.
There would be little need, therefore, to insist on the massacres of Pontelandolfo and Casalduni and generally on the savagery of Stalinist repression in the South (eg. The arrest of the relatives of the robbers and the destruction of their homes, p. 309) to understand, the only constitutional and administrative structure, where it would end the new Italy, 'a new state built on old foundations'. For sixty years of public life will be characterized by the centrality of the Crown, by the weakness of governments elected by a Chamber weak legitimacy, the marginal and ambiguous institutional position of the Senate for life, the mistrust towards the government and local authorities from the cult of centralized prefectural ( p. 341). That a public life so choked should lead to an authoritarian regime, was the natural order of things. But the 1940-45 war did not mark a real break with liberal Italy, and also the sixty years of plenty that is now spent on the entire port the legacy of Italy 'renewed' and unified. Eg., A 'question South 'gangrenous, public administration and sickest inefficient than it has ever been, and a life policy of' corruption, deception, intrigue unprecedented '(judged as a deputy in 1862 the Government of Urbano Rattazzi, p. 369). But worse and more bitter our condition is the fact that today is completely missing the great men, like the first sixty years of life had yet known unit: Giustino Fortunato, Giovanni Verga, Federico De Roberto Gaetano Salvemini ...

Diaper Punished For A Year

reflexive middle class: Final Note to the unpublished book 'A pocket Italy. Essay on the sagacious smallness of officials'. 2001.

I was going to put in This Blog only pages that seemed most interesting. But in rereading, realizing that there was so much to cut and fix, I was taken by the desire to make a general pruning. So that the entire text of the book was reduced to 29 chapters, which on paper would take up, yes and no, forty pages. I was surprised by the ease and, dare I say, the confidence with which I was able to cut sentences and pages to which it seemed to be fond. Without the computer may not have had the courage to destroy a book, in which, budding writer, I'd put everything . But the Internet, with its elusiveness and universality, with much reduced my pride of authorship and paper, I hope, an indulgence that I might have to myself.

The term 'wise smallness' of the subtitle is taken from a prose of great controversy Louis Russo (1892-1961).

I have nothing to add to the world of officials and employees. Reigns there such a great confusion of values and measures, it looks like, rather than the real world, one of those extraordinary and distant lands visited by Gulliver in his travels. The official-intellectual
is like the Academy of quell'inventore Lagado puzzled that eight years on the project to extract sunlight from cucumbers.

Looking at the faces of officials, intellectuals, and assessing their personalities, I am always amazed to find them, though different from each other, equally artificial.
Their physical appearance, perhaps for the constant habit of reciting and emphasize its role and themselves, I think that ends up taking common characteristics: a weak tone and an approximate expression, which in real life make their people from indeterminate boundaries as fuzzy photographs.
consider it wonderful that nature has been able to create many shades of gray, so many gradations of nothingness, so many changes in quality of all tasteless and odorless, so many modulations of ineptitude, so many streaks of meanness. Each, however, with its own characteristic, with its own funny or disturbing deformation.

one time, if it was possible to close the Library as it retreats to a convent, I think I would enthusiastically became a monk of the order of barefoot librarians.
Today, the Library no longer has almost no interest for me.

"I can not hold back from saying, prophetically wrote Schopenhauer, that for me 'optimism', as it is not the rant of people in their narrow forehead that words do not hide, is a way of thinking is not only absurd, but really 'infamous', a bitter mockery of the suffering humanity with no name. "
when Marxism seemed even a theory that allowed the greatest hope for all humanity, the philosopher György Lukács quoted this passage from Schopenhauer Schopenhauer against itself. Today, the pessimistic philosopher has taken a painful revenge and his scattered thoughts, which Lukács cites as evidence against him, pulverize the weighty book that contains them.

After that the effort to change society is dissolved along with the illusion of the goodness of men, I stopped in a position of strength.
I am convinced that evil prevails, encouraged by greed, fear, vanity.
are, however, also believe that a spark of wisdom and courage will always remain alive and on, because of pain and oppression in the long run can not fail to rise to a desire for truth and justice, and this makes me think that resisting persuasion is not useless.
appreciate the values of the spirit, but I can not stand the spiritualist discourses that ignore the reality of things.
Only those who have a lively sense of reality can be a very spiritual man and free.
I also think that the environment and education can only encourage or restrict the development of natural qualities, good or bad, already owned. No
pedagogy able to turn a man into a miserable person or a fool in a magnanimous man insightful.

Lost and the famous rhetorical optimism of the will, have become more attentive to the pleasure that can give the spectacle of nature.

Only recently, on a warm June evening, I saw for the first time the terrace of the Library. At that time, the thick walls delimiting the blue of the night as a room, giving it an intimacy unusual, and it lit up by his lights, had become the center of all space.
On one hand we saw in the distance, the dark masses of mountains eased just by scattered lights of houses on the other hand, to the south, began immediately the town with its sparkling lights endless.
The sky, which until recently was crossed by the fluttering swallows had lost the metallic blue of the day: its many shades of blue now seem dense and thick brush strokes and it did not seem far but near and tangible and intangible: l ' air was sweet and fragrant caress her.

In 1997, rain fell on the Library of knighthood which mostly went to decorate officials, intellectuals and young people still in service.

Who owns a recognized school is almost always more than eager to show off, in any light. While looking like a gentleman, not afraid to go out in the unreal world of public administration, riding a broomstick, or even if it lacks the broom, just spanking the buttocks, as did children up to fifty years ago when they pretended to spur with a whip riding imaginary horses in fantasy.

Faced with this horse full of flakes but little heroic, as re-establish the true values, if not contrasting it with patience, hard work and spirit of sacrifice that are the traditional skills of the infantry? In Library
still working some simple people, industrious and worthy of affection. Their common trait is a willingness of a gentle mood and, at least at work, a constant serenity.

A long time ago, between the knight who repress the malice of the wicked and the limits of justice (as recommended by an inscription on the facade of a medieval church), and the soldier was passing through the same huge difference between a rose and a daisy.
The rose also shines on its own beauty and its fragrance can nearly fill an entire garden. Daisies, however, it takes thousands to illuminate a field.

Today it's quite the opposite: the knights-officers not only save more justice, but they even write their own self-praise, that the Director-sovereign simply subscribe.

Corporate Motto:
1) love your neighbor
2) love your country
3) love your work
(Alberto Galgano, Total quality)

Those who can not do anything
has always ready a plan that would work .
(A. Bloch, The 3rd book by Murphy)

About three years ago, suddenly burst into the library theme of "total quality". Many officials, intellectuals suddenly began to speak in a language incomprehensible to me, this new and miraculous perspective.
all started with a booklet containing the text of the intervention made by the Director at a meeting in Milan, "the Librarian 2000.
Despite the vagueness of the title ("Total quality in staff training: a working hypothesis in the Library"), I read it hoping to find an analysis, perhaps in part but made realistic and practical approach, difficulties in the operation Institute.
But the director was limited, insisting in a general and emphatic, with a series of statements and declarations of intention, all so unrealistic as to seem far-fetched because, at the extent, the novelty and radical nature of the goals, fielding media completely inconsistent and weak arguments and rhetorical.

"How in the world production, it must also in the libraries there are limits to the search for a generic quality, as measured, at best, quantity and timeliness of services rendered, but the search for total quality. "

"Today, design the organization of libraries means to conceive of modern companies, which must be competitive and that is to provide effective services through efficient management."

"In other words, you must create a culture of quality in an environment that is perhaps the least suited to implement, because of its structural constraints: rigidity of careers, hierarchical system, lack of economic incentives, etc..
"The problem of overcoming these constraints can be solved only through the motivation and involvement of staff: each person must find their own role and feel part of the community, tied to a specific mission. "

"... to paraphrase a concept expressed by Alberto Galgano, 'love the show' [ie the customer], the purpose of the Library will become: 'love you'." All

brochure prose reminded me of some old articles gelatinous Unit: you start a process that creates the conditions for starting the overcoming of the capitalist system, etc.. etc..

From the article "ISO 9000: Quality and Technical Libraries," published recently by a librarian who is also a respected theologian of the QS (Quality System), I take this 'axiom of Total Quality':
"The human and material resources are the foundation for a SQ set up, and his realization begins when the 'quality' becomes a value for all staff. "

What about these concepts, these tautologies Jehovah's Witnesses? Leave the exact time that they find.
The implementation of quality system, it is said, can begin only when the quality becomes a value for all staff. Thank you! It 's like saying there will be no more wars, when everyone will love. But the difficulty lies precisely in arriving at that point!
The usefulness of the theory of quality is reduced to some basic catechism of elementary logic (for example, understand what are the causes and what effects), and encoded as abstract principles of sensible criteria for home economics (for example, focus on a few important factors and not getting lost in sub-items).
Beyond the standardization of these and other elements of common sense, the theory that quality does not propose to the directors of companies with a simple sales pitch action against the workers and staff, with veins even mystical, as these principles when processing : be original, follow your dreams and keep a vision of youth, etc.. But while
a real company (ie it is not the government) has very specific means to implement the quality system, such as the choice of leaders, the selective recruitment of employees, the possibility of withdrawal or dismissal of rewards and punishments, and the rhetorical arsenal of mystic has only a secondary role to facilitate the identification by the staff at work and to mitigate conflicts, the documents that seek to apply the Quality System to state libraries link only on the repertoire of slogans and exhortations, and seem to believe it has already done half the work with ease and annoying insistence on claiming a kind of catharsis palingenesis or staff, as if it were enough to invoke to see it realized. Also
supporters and operators of total quality in the library are developing a series of procedures, a succession of bureaucratic operations that allegedly logic, applied as a rigid grid or as a mold intelligent all the work and tasks, to ensure ( according to them) the results in accordance with the Quality System. Illusion! That series of operations required would make the work more cumbersome and is only intended to remain on paper.
These stacks of modules and boards remember the cries of Manzoni. Even
current theologians of total quality in the library are of the same stuff that the revolutionaries demanded thirty years ago a program of continuing education by the new Ministry of Culture. Very often even the same people who, in their cursus honorum have not even skipped a stage of the classic journey from the revolution to the professional virtual unrealistic.
They give a lot to do to organize dense set of contacts, meetings, conferences, writing articles, compiling mountains of cards and modules, hold or attend ...
Because they lack a true original ambition, the spring that makes them take only the permanent attention to what is in fashion, what the market wants, what he can bring even a tiny advantage. The market wants
ostrich meat? flour earthworm? They are always ready to answer, "you just become breeders and we used to eat with relish".

Library
In all complain and criticize, but they are not many who have reason to criticize.

The administrative confusion is caused primarily by the fragmentation of decision-making centers, scattered among the Director, unions, bureaucrats and politicians Romans. It follows that decisions are taken in a tortuous and have not (as they should be) the sole purpose of making the library work fine.
But it's been going on for some years a process of further fragmentation, because many activities are carried out by library staff of outside companies who work under contract. The justification of the government and trade unions, this would make it less expensive to the overall activity of the institute, is a modernist explanation that has a value purely technical grounds.
If dysfunction of the Library are confronted only with technical solutions, will soon emerge even more serious disorders.
First of all, the contract amounts to a complete surrender to run the institution with its own staff. Moreover, what seems to me that the most serious consequence, a large library that works with employees of various firms outside ceases to have its own history and identity. Each group of employees will be tied only to the short external segment of the work assigned to him, there will be no transfers, exchanges of personnel from office to office, will be increasingly difficult have a general idea of the library, which is not a factory for cars or refrigerators, which already suffers a lot for the spontaneous fractionation of the archipelago's natural and organic structure.

Other causes of inefficiency are inadequate personality of the directors and the general incompetence of the officials (the unions wanted to promotion of mass) and, finally, a personal-together, that the direction of the library has no means of administrative and legal framework for vigorously and to govern. Or to put it better: it would, for this purpose, any means, but weak, always used very little and now completely obsolete. If you want to use it today, it would certainly be blocked by the unions that by Roman authorities.

When someone accuses me of being overly pessimistic, say that the reality is worse and more black as I have described and to be able to tell that I had lit up a little.
The "real" reality is a tangle irraccontabile and indecipherable, as can be seen, for example, the model of prose that I report below.

"work across the board in general stores: daily discomfort and operational enhancement.
Foreword.
for ongoing work in the library tower has not been used so far to those involutions of operational procedures which often become de facto the possibility needs to stick to unavoidable operational fees up to implement the closure of public services, then in contrast with the full and complete realization of the purposes the Administration intends to pursue.
The modal horizon was anchored to a structure is absolutely necessary that meets and tries to combine the basic needs of productivity, technological change and structural and efficiency [...]"

Each element operating in the field of library bears its contribution to the general confusion and inefficiency. Each of them, yes, some reason to criticize the other elements, but then everyone finds their own convenience in the general organizational chaos and the reversal of values: a number, satisfaction and benefit, with the remaining, at least peace and security. Moreover
enough to think about this: if a school is a serious study, if the recruitment competitions were really selective, if the work organization was rational and transparent, and not rubbery, family and accommodation beyond all limits (like a sponge capable to absorb even rubble), many people who now occupy positions of responsibility with self-importance would have remained behind to carry out small tasks for which only show attitude.
How could, therefore, these people sincerely criticize the waves of confusion and disorder that have "democratically" brought in high?

Several years after leaving the post of director, Emanuele Casamassima, leaving the Institute in a late autumn afternoon, he met a former employee of his era.
"Jovial, tell me a bit ', but what happened to the library?
''"What happened as a professor?
'''E' as if he had more soul. "
Jovial was first surprised, then, as soon as he understood the feeling of Casamassima said emotion:
"But professor, today is not as it once was: now no longer works with love." Jovial

Salvatore, Palermo, youth officer in the Navy, who had to leave because she suffered from seasickness, he was a man of extraordinary generosity and great physical courage.
Once a worker who worked in the cabin of the counters in general Library took an electric shock that threw him to the ground unconscious and had a power outage in the entire institution. No one dared to enter the cabin to see what had happened. Jovial only had the courage to do so. He found groping the man's body and dragged him out by holding the shoulders raised.

Who does not know anything about the fact
is poured on the method.
(Gottfried Hermann, cited by Luciano Canfora
)

The personal characteristics that have allowed Marrameo to brighter career in which he could aspire to have several. They are not great either quality or rare, and yet, well welded together and addressed to one objective pursued with persistence, form a unique, like a turtle, with the tongue of an anteater and the sturdy legs of a mole, it could also darting about like an eel.

just entered the new conservation laboratory, which the Library operated as a cooperative, Marrameo not take long to realize two important things.
The first was that to be a leader needed to advance a goal felt by all. Began soon, then, to ask that that permanent staff would be absorbed by the state and placed in the reassuring condition of employment tenure.
The second insight was that the activity of the restoration, carried out in so large and in a new and unprecedented situation, was a field, capable of great development, where you could develop, invent and improvise.
Marrameo also had the patience to read the circulars and ministerial trade unions and other essential junk and felt a real pleasure to attend many meetings, which were for him an exciting theater, a vital field of action.

For some years we saw double-breasted jacket in continuously Marrameo pilgrimage, the head of a delegation comprising two or three other co-workers, among ladies and gentlemen, democratic administration, political leaders, senior bureaucrats, men of culture and even ministers.
When the corridors of the Library, now invaded by workers in white coats, you could see those delegates solemnly parade carefully shaved and dressed like a first communion party, you could tell immediately that they were leaving or returning from a mission strategic.

Marrameo had also created a magazine to try to write a professional-quality technical and eco-political culture in his own battle. In the first issue
The text begins immediately with the more general statements and unrealistic:
"We want to open, among other things, a discourse on libraries, today more than ever, the role that the library has started to play on its various dimensions such as public reading, information, upgrading of old collections and modern, the relationship with the school, staff, their training, even from the conservative point of view. "

not say that anyone who lists the problems he has also understood the nature and be able to glimpse the solution. That
rivistina also claimed to link the restoration of books in the library with a situation not only nationally, but also universal
"It would be useless and harmful to the resolution limit of these problems in isolation from the real context of safeguarding the natural environment, the ecological balance of species (to which the human species is inextricably linked), the preservation of the historical evidence of labor and human intelligence. "
Marrameo had nothing to envy the innocent young people. They had the same repertoire of stock phrases and were therefore destined to meet.

At the time such statements were not regarded as the eternal and recurrent slogans, and maximalist rhetoric, with which the ambitious by half a point always hide their inadequacy. Unfortunately it happened to people able and honest exchange of this agitation of flue cosmic positive for a democratic and cultural ferment.

Della rivistina came only four numbers, but Ugo Marrameo, which came to great acclaim in the Council of Delegates, the body of the union restoration laboratory, he continued with his staff to write documents, both political and technical, such as described in the simple restoration operations as if they were philosophical concepts. He defended, for example, his "theory of glue on all those who supported the other hand, wrong, different theories and reactionary.
few years later, transferred the staff of the restoration in the roles of civil servants, Marrameo considered the end of its mission and felt ripe for a career in national leadership, detached from work at the request of the union.
Many workers and employees have made a career in the seventies and eighties in the union. When workers 'organizations have become prosperous and strong institutions, capiufficio and in need of new staff, many were the grassroots activists, among the most poor and ambitious, who have become managers, happy to leave the factory ol' ufficio.E 'was a term of forty-workers see that cheerfully corpulent, abandoned production because they entered the union bureaucracy, made a jog on Sunday morning in the suburban streets to keep the line, hear a sentence repeated polished phrases picked up on in their meetings; disgusting to see them arrive mid-morning at the Labour casually bringing a bundle of newspapers under his arm and sunglasses even when the day was gray and dark. (Charm Sunglasses! People need to feel they have gray vaguely participants in an imaginary world: the adventures of the city, the exotic vacations, emotional film.
Marrameo he left for Rome as Che Guevara in Bolivia, paying a personal greeting to the gladiators who seems to echo the famous letter What's farewell to Fidel Castro (Fidel, in this hour I remember many things, when I met you, when you proposed to me to come with you, of all the tension of the preparations ...").

The letter is funny:

"To friends
not my greetings to others, and this certainly is not pretentious: I leave for my choice and the search for a different (not new: it's all more equal).
is difficult to talk or just to say, but it is normal that when you leave a part of himself or of his own, miserable life, ask a greeting.
For goodness sake, do not go through stages or episodes, I think it only serves to make painful separation. Do not say goodbye, not because of what it is, but rather on a thought, in fact, who's worth. This certainly was not appropriate at a time: we remember the poet: "... Then the word of the prophets windy it shook the foundations of / and the sun came out cockroaches and rats, and it is damn difficult to discern, to think and operate. I leave you with all these thoughts just certainly not memorable: the times, moreover, does not even help you sganascerebbero laughter. The laughter made me come back to me (not true: I've searched!) Abbot Galiani these considerations, and so you set them down again without veiled innuendo but as auctoritates!
'In order for this admirable and essential natural world are fools and men of genius. Nature has willed (though he never wanted for anything else) that everybody will play a part. Now, there are only two parts to play: that of those in power and that of others suggest. There can be no advice to fools, they had no talent for even unreason. E 'was therefore necessary for the fools to rule, because if they did this would not do anything at all, and would be a superfluity of nature, which should not have anything superfluous, if not itself the whole'.
As usual, you say, does not go away on tiptoe (think only about the size: it is impossible!) but always with a hint of controversy and student spirit.
Certainly I was not, or is indifferent to me this work and, indeed, not easy for me to detach myself, but I know I should, perhaps you will rediscover new dimensions, friends, exactly. The "rest" does not count even cries, begs and is almost always the state. You see, not a politician greeting in that language and does not use categories: speeches made and we will do it again. For once I would not be historical accident, is too urgent and heavy. A gesture perhaps, but a greeting with a hug and a pat. We'll meet again: it is a belief. "

The subsequent development of career was Marrameo respectable.

"You!" He said with contempt the Worm. "Who are you ?"
(L. Carroll, Alice in Wonderland)

A type of Italian that in recent decades has become representative Marrameo is Hugh, a former colleague from the library, and fellow party Piero Innocenti friend and occasional collaborator of his rivistine.
could not make an academic career, Marrameo. By today's theater of the official culture, was closed off. But if only she had the ticket, it would certainly come with his patience, the Royal Box. However, his career as a national leader of the trade union appears almost more remarkable than his illustrious academic partner.
Marrameo must add that, not being a 'cleric' career, it did not carry the cleric in freedom, a sort of guerrilla in a culture all its own, which evidently found listeners and admirers. From light-hearted writer, trade unionist Marrameo writes very original circular. Here is a small sample:

"to workers. Ladies and gentlemen and lawmen. The recovery in autumn: a) continue the smash on the premiership of the center-left, b) rate increases, c) ... the inflation and petrol without Parietti man who makes a pair with the actress Schiffer ... the power of Lazio ... but for us there is always a MA-RIA more or less happily married with our dear UIL ... (SSSS ... I say this because a voice - unidentified - said that in these days of heat (sic) saw the embrace Fumarola IIS with the excuse - has defended the wretched - levarle of the income tax!) (The series: a little 'Gossip for the summer).

What to say? It might seem a revival of Futurism, a patter to Pinocchio, but I only think of the cicada is a sports magazine of the parish, where everyone knows each other and wink to each other.

I met 'the artist as a young man', ie Ugo Marrameo when he was a young man with high hopes.
the common part of Long Bridge, a neighborhood of working-class suburb, I met a very strange man, Guido Marando. He worked at the union of the vehicle but was a framer by trade and in his spare time painting. He was then twenty-eight years.
His wife Teresa, a plump girl who lived in the shadow of her husband, she knew in Rome a delicate and sensitive young girl, Barbara, who was engaged to an arrogant Roman proletarian.
During my trip to Rome, Teresa gave me a stack of books to take to her friend Barbara.
We met one Sunday afternoon in Piazza Venezia. She was accompanied by her boyfriend, Hugh Marrameo, a guy in his twenties who already had the physique and the manners of a fat landlord of the Castelli Romani.
We went to make a snack of artichokes "Jewish style" in a restaurant near the Portico d'Ottavia.
Barbara, I saw for the first time, it was a girl with a fragile smile. Belonged to a wealthy family of professionals. I kind of looked like a painfully insecure woman, who probably believed he had found love and certainty joining the legendary working class.
The boyfriend seemed without studies and, I believe, without job, but he does not know what strong proletarian origin or condition, he believed to be able to give lessons in tactics and strategy without the need for reading and study. But he had his fine repertoire of stock phrases, ears and probably in the sections in the newspapers of the party.
In that mild spring Sunday afternoon, despite the pleasantness of the place, the goodness of the artichokes, the courtesy due to people just met and the fact that I had a young communist with the myth of the working class, the banality of Marrameo managed to sorry completely.
review was not particularly far-fetched to irritate me. In the Communist Party at that time there was not enough space to diametrically opposed views. Irritated me, rather, the obvious desire to Marrameo to argue, however, have no idea really different from mine. Faced with enough tone and aggressiveness of its outputs, I wondered what we were puzzled about. In reality, he contradicted me in my status as a student who did higher studies.
Barbara was delighted to hear candidly, exchanging for the coarseness of his hero barricadiera passion.

For many months I thought I saw no more than a couple. But early the next year, suddenly, Barbara and her family left Rome and moved with her boyfriend at the home of Guy and Teresa. They had only one bedroom and a kitchen. We proposed to separate the young couple: Barbara had lived at the home of Teresa and Hugh would have stayed at my house. I agreed to put aside my dislike for Marrameo and the hassle of sharing my house with a stranger, because it seemed so personal feelings then a serious crime of bourgeois individualism. Solidarity with the "comrades" was considered a duty.
Marrameo Fortunately, much more individualistic than me, he was in my house one night, a Saturday to Sunday. I, mate and master of the house down to the particular task, I had him when he wakes up to find the pastries for breakfast, but he wanted to go back to sleep and Teresa Guido, where he stayed several months, regardless of the embarrassment that provoked.

But meanwhile the sun was coming up for him the future.
few months before the city was flooded by water of the Arno. National Library was to create a great laboratory for the restoration of the damaged thousands of ancient books and hire staff. Ugo
Marrameo worker showed up and became a restorer.

A Sample Confidentiality Clause

In addition

When the region in recent months, provinces and municipalities have announced that the cuts of the national government to local public transport (TPL) would be unsustainable, they were not telling tales.
The sad now prediction has become reality. The money with which the region has covered the hole left by the government were taken from the Regional Fund of the house: the "life preserver" of the region was necessary, after Parliament rejected the possibility of using the funds for the Tpl Fass .
Next year, however, the region can not guarantee coverage cut imposed by the government to Tpl. The situation is dramatic. How many mayors have said in the national Democratic Party, "we are not magicians." The cutting Tpl is just another clear signal that the disaster is leading the center-right government.
The debate that has developed about possible cuts in jobs is the concrete consequence of this cleaver. Do not yield to the temptation to trace the responsibilities in municipalities, provinces and in the region: the cause of the disaster of Tpl is cutting structural Berlusconi's government. And the resources that the region has found today in 2011, next year, in 2012, there will be no more.
So, before talking about cuts to jobs, you need to quickly redefine the entire system of local public transport in our region. We have said clearly: we're going to race a single region. New, because in the past were provided at the provincial level competitions.
E 'that you get well soon around a table and starting to discuss how one company, one network of lines and check the possible integration between rail and road transport. Only then can then possibly talking about staff cuts. It can not do before. We are faced with difficult choices and complex.
The city of Pisa, thanks to the mayors, has a healthy company. One aspect that should not be set aside during the debate about the single: who will extinguish the debt, but those who were virtuous should not be affected.

Berlusconi with our values: honesty, trustworthiness, citizenship, solidarity

Bersani concludes the National Assembly and sets out the main points of what will be the government's program of PD

"There will be no words of conclusions but a ' introduction to the last phase of our project lavoro.Il for Italy. " Pier Luigi Bersani thus introduced the conclusions of the National Democratic Party. "We showed a choral strordinaria analysis and political issue: the debate over these two days showed great emotion and civil unrest that we should not abandon. We are a party of government and policy-making is demonstrated in both non-generic words on Italy when we say we want and we promise to do "

" We have enhanced our submissions that we summarize here in Rome. The content is up to us and we can not delegate them to anyone

Agenda of the country. "We speak of Italy. Berlusconi has turned the agenda by placing himself at the center. We do not accept it. Italy at the center of our politics.

Breath project. "Our project and its wavelength just finished watching the decade and the next. The decade of Berlusconi has aggravated the economic and social problems. We lost contact with the countries with which we were happy together. We are now below the European average of 27 in many important ways. In two years we have drifted to 4 years in France and Germany. The truth has been obscured by Berlusconi's populism. We must tell the truth: this is the key to reject the resignation of key, new horizons and to build the country's future. no fable but a positive challenge for the future .
The decline is due to the country's democratic crisis . The inadequacy of the policy I think ghe and populism has distorted the vision of government: a government to serve the short term, to serve the staff and not the general. " The gap in Europe is also a democratic and social detachment. "We came to the political tricks. Organize around the center and address the democratic and social.
Sunset Berlusconi. "Every day there was a blow against the main walls of the common home, against the system of rules. It is time to move beyond . Let's look at than Berlusconi. Relaunch the European project, will finance to pay for the crisis. The debts do not have to pay the young. Leave no mortgage on their future. Lighten the future and give new perspectives. "
For Bersani the key points of the recovery are the "reform of the Republic and a new social pact for growth and employment".

When it comes to Republican reform is designed to protect our Constitution, which is the most beautiful in the world, through its innovation. This means reducing the number of members of parliament, the bicameral perfect pass between the House and Senate, electoral reform, the abolition of laws made for the crack and security do it yourself. To this we reply: "I will!" It means reforming the Public
Directors on incompatibility of offices, transparency, reduction of ministries, the number of provinces, the consolidation of small municipalities, the reduction of deception and lies ... "you will only brunette."
means a new system of rights to be given the utmost importance, "a son of immigrants born in Italy is Italian, women must have more. Put your hands in politics with the warmth of a civic and moral response that can not be taken in the abstract. "

The Pact for Growth and Jobs. "Productivity and competitiveness must be retrieved at the system level. If we are the country that grows less, with prices that grow more, who is heading there?
stability and growth must go hand in hand. Enough with the Tremonti! Inequality and wealth in the hands of only a few inhibits the growth necessary to tighten the band of this inequality. Less than state and society is not the recipe. Should give themselves a hand. "

"We abandon the idea of linear cuts, put the screwdriver in the system. We know how to do it. In addition to controlling spending, the Democratic Party raised on tax reform, where we presented our project 20-20-20 loyalty tied to a new tax, a tax that would be of Maastricht at least 50 billion euro. Good standards, traceability, anti-black, vigorous attitude towards the state and its agencies, and the suspension of all gravestone any amnesty.

"Parlaimo work. job rights and united in its representation . Work to protect vulnerable with positive policies for growth and welfare. No chat, but liberal reforms to labor, business, family and youth. But remember that no market can manage the school and health. "

"kick-start investment by putting few resources available in the right way. So we get new resources to invest. The industrial policy should be clearer. Dear Marchionne we speak only of breaks or shifts in Italy for 150 years you have time to explain how you intend to invest? For us, the answers are green economy, new technological processes and quality. You can not make industrial policy with incentives that make generic tick only warehouses. "

"The North and the South out of Europe moves away from the North. The news has just come from the south: it goes from there to give credibility to a convincing reconstruction of the unity of the country. The South calls for reforms profits for himself and for the North. Full citizenship rights, standards of service which is why a good citizen is good business . Federalism can be an important key, federalism are not those who wrote the 4 Robette League. Service objectives, equalizing mechanisms, standard costs, are things that they should understand that even the Northern League. Bersluconi The league can not do with federalism! the South is not all garbage, not just let the young directors owe to Salvatore Vassallo. We need to make a deadly war of illiteracy return, invest in technical schools, teachers, single contract for research, university reforms to stop ghost! "

" Ours is a challenge of modernity to keep together social rights and civil rights , so I always read the article 3 of the Constitution. "

"Italy can not be older than her democracy, can not be older than the Italians. Must be younger! say the essential words, a radical alternative to Berlusconi: honesty, seriousness, sobriety, good citizenship, solidarity .

"Let us go back those words and put them in front of our world. We are a party with civic values, which are the heart of our project. There is a strong undercurrent of values need. René Campofilone I had as a colleague for over thirty years. In this long period of time, I think I exchanged with him no more than two or three sentences per year, almost all insulting.
Although these verbal exchanges were rare, our mutual dislike was renewed every day when we met, I was a grimace of disgust, he gestures superstitious.
In the end, not due to a supervening mild or goodwill, but an excess of hate that was almost exhausting, we made a tacit armistice, prefer to ignore.

René Campofilone arrived in the Library, when he was little more than a boy, after finishing high school. I know him so many years, but I do not know almost nothing about him.
E 'tall and straight and walks with a calm so slow as to seem arrogant. As a young man had a beautiful face and gray eyes, looking all cool and with a little 'contempt.
was difficult, in the ordinary world of employees, not to be struck by something so unusual and not give credit to Campofilone of great intellectual gifts and character.
He also wrote La Rochefoucauld: "There is an elevation that is a certain air which distinguishes us and seems destined for great things. [...] It 's because of this quality that we usurp the respect and admiration of other men. "
In the early seventies, Campofilone arrived in the library every morning, bringing the arm Il Manifesto, Wrestling The continuous and daily workers, and the bar, at every break, saw him absorbed in reading. Must be a great revolutionary! I wonder how many ideas! thought by many.
the lively gatherings of those years, he always sat at the bottom, in the back rows, and not taking the floor. At first, when there was a euphoric unanimity, his silence did not seem strange, in fact I looked like a proof of nobility: it was necessary to add words to things already known and predictable repeated many times and shared by all.
When, however, unanimity political and cultural union of those meetings ended and it was clear to all the artificial nature of the slogans and emphatic fashion that had sustained, René Campofilone continued to remain silent: silent forever and more than thirty years has never opened his mouth and never has taken the pen to write or sign a document.
This did not prevent him, however, to make fun, chat in the corridor, the ideas of others and especially of mine, who were very isolated. There has never been one of my wheel or my speech at the meeting that have raised his approval or at least his public reprimand.
I waited for a long time with great curiosity that he expose himself in some way, expressing their ideas or their own preference, but it was a vain expectation.
There was, however, the cunning of not wanting to discover, thus showing some vulnerable point, which prompted him to never take place. They were rather indifference and laziness, as I finally understood.
And his indifference was a universal quality. Campofilone was not only indifferent to the life of the Library, which is absolutely legitimate, but was indifferent to everything.
The only thing I ever did was vibrate the fear of losing his job in the Pacific and seek scholarly compilation. I could easily understand the desire for tranquility and isolation of a man so Forastiere, if he had not given up regularly (only in hallways) to sarcasm to the ideas of others. A guy that could not meet with Professor Piero Innocenti, and in fact, occasionally helped him, on his rivistine, in one of his empty and acrimonious controversy.
Every now and then, tired of waiting for a gesture or a thought interesting and original, curious to know what Campofilone hiding behind his sarcastic manner, I teased, to his great irritation, criticized for having a combative appearance but a defeatist mood.
